Latvia considers Belarus' foreign policy well-balanced

Latvia considers that Belarus' foreign policy is well-balanced, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Latvia to Belarus Maira Mora told a press conference in Minsk on April 2.

Building up good relations with both Russia and the European Union is a very reasonable policy, the diplomat said, reported Belta.

"Belarus is holding a dialogue with the European Union and this is very good as there has not been any dialogue for a long while. This is quite a breakthrough on the part of Belarus," Maira Mora said. According to her, the Latvian side welcomes Belarus' inclusion into the Eastern Partnership programme. "This is a great opportunity for Belarus. It needs to be used wisely. We hope for further constructive Belarus-EU dialogue," she said.

When asked about Belarus' prospects to enter the EU, Maira Mora reminded that the Belarusian side has stated that it is not going to join the EU in the foreseeable future. Yet, if such an initiative is put forward, Latvia may support it. "Why not?" the diplomat added.
