Belarus sowed spring grains and leguminous plants throughout 90% of planned areas

As of April 21, 2009, Belarus sowed spring grains and leguminous plants (without maize) throughout 90% of planned areas, declared the Ministry of Agriculture and Food.

According to the data of the Ministry, Belarus sowed the crops throughout 912 thsd ha. Gomel and Grodno oblast completed the spring sowing campaign of the crops. Brest oblast sowed spring crops throughout 97% of planned areas, Minsk oblast - 90%, Mogilev oblast - 81%, Vitebsk oblast - 68%, explained the Ministry.

Agricultural organizations managed to increase the sowing rates of the previous year despite more late beginning of the campaign in the current year. As of April 21, the general sowing campaign in the country was realized through 1.1 mln ha or 48.1% of planned areas. To date, agrarians continue the sowing campaign of flaxseed, sugar-beet, spring rapeseed, maize. Agrarians sowed flaxseed throughout 29.3% of planned territory, spring rapeseed - 7.3%, maize - 4%.

According to preliminary data of the Ministry, frosts of the recent period did not form negative effect on general condition of winter crops.
