Lukashenko tells MPs he alone makes the decisions in Belarus

MINSK, April 23 (RIA Novosti) - Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko has said that he makes all the decisions himself and his main adviser is his eldest son, Viktor.

"The president is in fine condition and ready to make decisions within the framework of the constitution on his own," Lukashenko said during his annual state of the nation speech before the country's parliament on Thursday.

Lukashenko, who has led Belarus since 1994, said that he makes all his decisions in the interest of Belarus and that Viktor is his "main adviser in economic and other issues." Viktor is the president's national security aide.

Lukashenko has three sons and has said many times that Viktor will not become his successor. In 2007 at a news conference in Minsk, referring to Viktor and Dmitry, he said that "neither my first, nor my second son will become president."

In October 2008, while observing military drills with his 5-year-old son, who was dressed like his father in the full uniform of the commander-in-chief of the armed forces of Belarus, Lukashenko referred to Nikolai as his "heir" and the future president of Belarus.
