Eastern Partnership targets Belarus and Ukraine

/PanARMENIAN.Net/ As a European Commission's initiative, Eastern Partnership envisages special kind of cooperation with member states.

"The main problem of this initiative is not the economy itself, but perception of European values and democracy in six states: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Ukraine, Georgia and Moldova," Director of Freedom House Europe Vladimir Shkolnikov said at Caucasus 2008 conference in Yerevan.

"Of course, Eastern Partnership plan still has to be developed. It is quite a complicated project, which targets Belarus and Ukraine rather than South Caucasus countries," the expert said and added that as compared to past initiatives, Eastern Partnership design is very promising.

Eastern Partnership constitutive summit will take place in Prague on May 7. The program was approved in December 2008 and includes six post soviet countries: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Ukraine, Georgia
