Vietnam wants to strengthen its ties with Belarus

Vietnam's National Assembly seeks to promote multifaceted cooperation with Belarus, said Chairman Nguyen Phu Trong to Vladimir Andreichenko, Speaker of the Belarus House of Representatives, in Minsk Wednesday.

Trong said the two parliaments should supervise both governments and relevant ministries when implementing bilateral cooperation agreements. The two sides will continue to work together closely and consult each other when attending international forums, he said.

Andreichenko said he hoped Vietnam's National Assembly would soon set up a Vietnam-Belarus parliamentarian group. Perhaps through Vietnam, Belorussian products can reach other Asia-Pacific countries. Meanwhile, Belarus will help Vietnam export its products to the European market.

Later that day, Trong, who met with Boris Batura, the Speaker of the Council of the Republic (the Upper House) of Belarus, said he aims to boost the friendship and cooperation between the two countries and the two national assemblies. Trong hopes to develop effectively the time-honored relationship between Vietnam and Belarus.

Batura spoke highly of Vietnam's role and position in the world, stressing that Vietnam is Belarus' strategic partner in the Asia-Pacific region.

Trong, Andreichenko and Batura signed a cooperation agreement between the two national assemblies.

The two sides pledged to promote cooperation between the two parliaments, contributing to the development of countries' relations in politics, economics, trade, technology, environmental protection, education, and tourism.
