Belarus to harvest 9.4 mln tons of grains

In 2009, Belarus plans to harvest 9.4 mln tons of grains in clean weight as opposed to 9.01 mln tons in clean weight in 2008, declared Vasiliy Sedin, the Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food, the director of the department of grain products, on April 15.

According to V.Sedin, Belarus should complete the sowing campaign of early spring grains on April 20 in all regions except of northern oblasts. These regions plan to complete the sowing campaign of early spring crops on April 25. The general spring sowing campaign will finish till May 9, added V.Sedin.

Despite the late beginning of the sowing campaign in the current year due to the unfavorable weather conditions, to date Belarus reached the previous year rates of the field works. According to the information of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food, as of April 15, agrarians sowed spring crops throughout 31.6% of planned areas as opposed to 33.3% on the same data in the previous year. To date, agricultural enterprises sowed spring grains and legumes (without maize) throughout 65.6% of planned areas. Several regions have already completed the sowing campaign of early spring grains and started the sowing works of sugar-beet, flaxseed, maize, noticed V.Sedin.

V.Sedin estimated the provision of agricultural organizations with mineral fertilizers, fuel materials and agricultural technical equipment as rather good. According to him, the requirement in potash fertilizers was satisfied by over 100%. The government forecasts the complete securing of nitrogenous fertilizers requirement, and plans to purchase the deficit volumes of phosphoric fertilizers in Russia.
