Beltelecom launches mobile WiMAX network in capital

Belarusian national operator Beltelecom yesterday announced the launch of the 'test and commercial operation' of a mobile WiMAX network in the capital, Minsk. In the initial rollout phase, the telco has deployed 22 base stations - mainly in the city centre - using IEEE 802.16e specified technology operating in the 3.5GHz band. Beltelecom's new service, which is being offered under its byfly banner, is supplied with a USB modem for the duration of the end user's contract. In addition, the PTO is allowing users to take advantage of an initial 'test period' to try out the benefits of the new service.
