Vietnam, Belarus vow to further economic ties

Chief legislators from Vietnam and Belarus expressed their determination to develop bilateral ties, especially in trade and economy, during talks in Hanoi Tuesday.

Although the bilateral political relationship has developed well, the two countries' economic and commercial ties remain low compared to the potential, agreed Vietnam's National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Van An and visiting Chairman of the Belarusian National Assembly Council of the Republic Gennady Novitsky.

The two chairmen expressed their joy at the fine development of the friendship and multifaceted cooperation between the two countries in the recent past.

They agreed that, in the coming time, the two legislatures would continue supporting cooperation agreements between the two governments with a view to effectively carry out these pacts.

The two legislators also discussed major measures to consolidate and strengthen the cooperation between the two legislative bodies.

After the talks, Chairmen An and Novitsky signed the minutes of the meeting and a memorandum of understanding on bilateral cooperation.

They also witnessed the signing of a document on twinning Da Nang city of Vietnam and Grodno city of Belarus.

The Belarusian delegation attended a plenary session of the Vietnamese National Assembly in Hanoi on the same day. They also paid a floral tribute to the late President Ho Chi Minh at his mausoleum and visited his former residence and office.

Chairman Novitsky is scheduled to pay a courtesy visit to President Tran Duc Luong and meet Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung in the afternoon of May 17.
