The Chairman of Council of the Republic of Belarus Henadz Navitski welcomes Uzbekistan's joining the organization of the Eurasian Economic Community (EurAsEC).
This was stated by Navitski during his meeting in Minsk with Ilgizar Sobirov, chairman of the Uzbek Supreme Assembly's Senate.
The chairmen of Uzbek Senate had arrived in Minsk to attend a meeting of the Eurasian Economic Community's (EurAsEC) Inter-Parliamentary Assembly scheduled for 26 May.
Navitski said that "this meeting is symbolic, because we are considered to be the receiving side of the session of the Interparliamentary Assembly of the EurAsEC, and also because Uzbekistan became the member of the organization".
"It turned out that history, at first, scattered us. But it is very important that, with time passing, we made a sensible decision to integrate. I think that the Uzbek government and the country's parliament understand that today, when the world became unipolar it is very important to have such a union that will assist, first of all, in the steady economic development of its member states," Navitski underlined.
In his turn Sobirov said: "Uzbekistan and Belarus have many issues in common that need to be solved jointly. In particular, it is the fight against terrorism, drug trafficking and the fight against crime in general."
