Ahmadinejad to visit Belarus soon

Belarusian foreign ministry spokesman has said Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad will make a two-day visit to Belarus starting on Monday.

The spokesman, Andrei Popov, told journalists that "a wide range of questions relating to bilateral cooperation" would be discussed but gave no details.

The visit comes after Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko held talks with the Iranian leadership in Tehran last November in which he offered support for Iran's nuclear program.

Both governments have been the target of sharp criticism by the West: Iran over suspicions about its nuclear program, Belarus over human rights abuses.

Belarus has also sold Russian-made military equipment and spare parts to Iran in the face of Western criticism.

The two countries' defense ministers signed a cooperation agreement in Tehran in January.
