Majlis approves bill on Iran-Belarus cooperation

The Islamic Consultative Assembly (Majlis) Sunday ratified the bill of treaty of principles of mutual ties and cooperation between Iran and Belarus.

The bill was approved by MPs during Majlis open session on the eve of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's official two-day visit to Belarus, scheduled to take place on Monday upon an official invitation by his Belarussian counterpart Alexander Lukashenko.

Following a proposal offered by Vice-President for Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Ahmad Moussavi, the cabinet on Sunday called on the Majlis to give priority on its agenda to reviewing and endorsing the bill.

President Ahmadinejad presented the bill to the Majlis on June 18.

In his visit to Minsk, the Iranian president is to head a top-ranking delegation and hold talks with his Belarussian counterpart and other senior officials.

The sides are to discuss bilateral ties and key international developments.

Ahmadinejad is also scheduled to meet Iranian nationals residing in Belarus and attend interviews with Belarussian TV channels.

Tehran and Minsk will sign documents on expansion of bilateral cooperation in different fields.
