Samand production in Belarus rising

A contract will be inked with Unison in Belarus for executing the second stage of Iran Khodro's Samand assembly line development plan in Minsk.

Iran Khodro Managing Director Manouchehr Manteqi said with the development of this assembly line in Minsk, Belarus will turn into an important hub for the domestic carmaker in Eastern Europe.

Iran's state-owned Iran Khodro is the leading automaker in the Middle East and produces 500,000 cars and trucks each year.

"The development of this site with the cooperation of Belarus's Unison Car Company will generate an income of $240 million per year, while employment will be also be boosted," he said, Mehr news agency reported.

About 2,700 Samand sedans will be manufactured in Iran Khodro's Belarus site after the execution of this plan by 2007, Manteqi said, adding cars produced at the site will be exported to markets in Poland, Bulgaria, Croatia, Romania and parts of Russia.
