Iran, Belarus discuss bilateral economic ties

Iran and Belarus explored avenues for expansion of economic relations, Deputy Minister of Commerce for Economic Affairs said on Monday.

Mehdi Ghazanfari made the remarks during his visit to Belarus at the head of a trade delegation comprising representatives of 50 companies active in technical and engineering services, medicine, auto making, spare parts manufacturing, oil and gas, petrochemicals, agriculture, and foodstuff.

According the Relations Department of the Trade Promotion Organization of Iran (TPOI), the TPOI director general added that Iranian engineers are implementing important projects in some countries in Latin America, the Persian Gulf, the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), Canada, the UK and Germany.

Ghazanfari called on Belarussian side to go into partnership with Iranian companies in road construction, house building, construction materials, electricity transmission, water supply, petrochemicals, car manufacturing, foodstuff and food processing industries.

The Iranian and Belarussian representatives underlined in the meeting the need to expand banking ties, establish a joint bank in Belarus, remove problems facing Iranians to get residence permit, facilitate regulations on customs and transport, and implement agreements on customs, standards and preferential tariffs.

Ghazanfari also expressed the readiness of Iranian companies to implement construction projects based on world standards in Belarus.

Iran has the capability of constructing tunnels, silos and irrigation networks, he said, adding that if Iranian companies are allowed to implement such projects in Belarus without participating in any tenders, they will be ready to invest in the country properly.
