Belarus vows co-operation with Iran

FOCUS News Agency

Minsk. Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko has promised his Iranian counterpart Mahmoud Ahmadinejad that the two countries will co-operate "in all areas", Deutsche Welle reported. The Iranian leader is in the former Soviet republic for a two-day state visit. During the visit the two leaders are expected to discuss energy, trade and technology issues.

Lukashenko has been a vocal supporter of Iran's controversial nuclear program, while Ahmadinejad has praised the Belarusian president, condemned by Washington as "the last dictator in Europe". Belarus has been seeking new foreign trading partners because of a souring of relations with its largest economic partner Russia.
