Iran, Belarus boost bilateral ties

Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has said that both Iran and Belarus are against unilateralist policies in the international arena.

During a meeting with his Belarusian counterpart Alexander Lukashenko on Monday, President Ahmadinejad considered the current level of cooperation between Iran and Belarus as very good and growing.

He added Iran attaches special importance to the expansion of bilateral ties with Belarus.

The Iranian president said that Iran and Belarus have adopted a common stance on international issues and there is no limitation to the expansion of bilateral ties between the two countries.

"There are suitable grounds for the expansion of mutual cooperation in the fields of energy, commerce, transportation, and joint investments," he said.

President Lukashenko, for his part, expressed hope that mutual relations would be further consolidated.

"Belarus is willing to have strategic cooperation with Iran," he said.

"We appreciate Iranian investments in Belarusian oil, gas and industry sectors and hope Iran expands its investments in Belarus," he said.

Iran is a very powerful country and Belarus is determined to increase the current level of trade exchanges with Iran, President Lukashenko said.
