Ahmadinejad's Breakthrough in Belarus

by Scott Sullivan

Iran's pro-Hitler President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad will visit Berlarus on Monday and Tuesday. By arranging this visit, Ahmadinejad wants to show he is a global statesman, ready to visit any country in the world, with the sole exception of France which now has a Jewish president and a Jewish Foreign Minister, both of whom lost immediate family in the Holocaust. No, Amhmadinead cannot go to France!

By visiting Belarus, Ahmadinejad has the following goals in mind.

Ahmadinejad's first objective is to maximize the leverage gained by the opening of direct talks between Iran and the US. By agreeing to these talks, Iran gave away nothing to the US and gained instant respectability, which Ahmadinejad is now translating into tangible diplomatic gains. From Ahmadinejad's perspective, President Bush, with his violent anti-Iran rhetoric, when combined his willingness to make quiet and sweeping concessions to Iran, is a gift from Allah.

Ahmadinejad's second objective is to pave the way for future visits to Berlin, London, and Washington. Once the Belarus visit comes off without diplomatic protest from any quarter, Ahmadinejad will immediately apply for visas from Germany, the UK, and the USA. So far, so good.

Ahmadinejad's third objective is to maximize his leverage in negotiations with President Bush. By gaining additional European, especially German, support, Ahmadinejad demonstrates to Bush that Iran can turn to Germany, and that the US must continue to meet Iran's terms. President Bush understands this, but the US Congress does not.

Ahmadinejad's fourth objective is to strengthen Germany, Iran's number one European ally, at the expense of Russia. Germany wants to isolate Russia and is cooperating with Belarus and Ukraine to that end. For their part, Poland, the Baltic States, and the Czech Republic are too distrustful to join Berlin's coalition. For his part, President Lukaschenko of Belarus is seeking ways of gaining independence from Moscow. Iran is the answer.

Ahmadinejad's fifth objective is to drive a wedge in Franco-German relations. Ahmadinejad sees newly elected president Nicolas Sarkozy, unlike the easy going and malleable President Bush, as a major threat. Sarkozy, unlike Bush, is not prepared to give way to Ahmadinejad. Sarkozy will resist Iran in Europe, Lebanon and the Middle East, and North Africa. From Ahamdinejad's perspective, France is a tool of Russia and the pro-Arab coalition that Russia is building in the Middle East which includes Syria, Saudi Arabia, Lebanon and Egypt.

Ahmadinejad's sixth objective by visiting Belarus, last but not least, is to widen his access to Soviet arms purchases. Ahmadinejad no longer trusts Russia, as he trusts the US, now that Russia pulled out of the Bushehr nuclear reactor and closed the door to full Iranian membership in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization. Who knows, at some point down the road, Ahmadinejad may even share his nukes with Belarus and Germany, as he has promised to share them with Venezuela's Hugo Chavez.

In short, Ahmadinejad's visit to Belarus shores up the Axis between Iran, Germany, and the US, while it isolates Russia, France, and the Arabs. Ahmadinejad may worship Hitler, but he is an inspired diplomat who so far is winning, hands down.

NO US VISA FOR AHMADINEJAD!
