Editorial: 'The Axis of Losers'

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad recently surfaced in Belarus to proclaim a "strategic partnership" with that forlorn and shunned fragment of the Soviet Union.

The authoritarian Mr. Ahmadinejad, with the even more authoritarian Alexander Lukashenko, assured the world that the strengthening of relations between the two "fosters support for regional and global security."

Both are pariah nations. Belarus is under European Union and U.S. sanctions for Mr. Lukashenko's Soviet-style repression of his people, and Iran is under U.N. sanctions for refusing to abandon a potential nuclear-weapons program.

Another visitor to Belarus has been Venezuelan strongman Hugo Chavez, who is in a mutually supportive relationship with Mr. Ahmadinejad. As an anti-U.S. move, both announced an indirect plan to undermine the dollar by moving their reserves out of dollars and demanding oil payments in euros.

Mr. Chavez regularly reaffirms his admiration for Cuba's Fidel Castro and Mr. Ahmadinejad will be addressing a conference in Havana this fall.

So there they are Iran, Belarus, Venezuela and Cuba united in solidarity against the menace of America. The Axis of Losers.
