Festival in Hrodna aims to involve more young journalists

Citizen journalism will be one of the main themes of an upcoming festival for young journalists in western Belarus. The "Your Style" festival is scheduled for May 18 to 20 in Hrodna.

The Belarusian Association of Journalists (BAJ) and the Treci Sektar Center in Hrodna are organizing the festival. Vitaut Rudnik, director of Treci Sektar, told IJNet that events will include workshops led by experienced journalists from Minsk and contests for young journalists of the Hrodna region.

There will also be presentations from Abazhur, the BAJ newspaper, as well as Hrodna-based news sites. And Rudnik said that the festival also would honor past and present teachers of the School of Young Journalists program in Hrodna, while releasing a directory of the program's instructors and alumni.

"Participation in the festival is open," Rudnik said. "We hope in this way to find new writers for the Web site t-styl.info, which we look on as a vehicle for citizen journalism, and to find new participants for the School of Young Journalists project for 2007-2008."

The Web site Tvoy Styl-or "your style"-is available at http://t-styl.info/. It features an online newspaper and radio station and solicits content from local journalists.
