Belarus boosts agricultural production 6.5% in Jan-Apr

MINSK. May 13. (Interfax) - Belarus boosted agricultural production in current prices 6.5% to 3.244 trillion Belarusian rubles in January- April 2008, the Statistics and Analysis Ministry told Interfax.

According to forecasts, Belarusian agricultural production should increase 8.5% in 2008.

The ministry said that total production of agricultural organizations and private farms increased 9.1% in the period, while subsistence farming decreased 5.6%.

The total cattle and poultry slaughter in live weight by agricultural organizations in the four months increased 6.4% year-on-year to 338,400 tonnes. Milk production went up 9% to 1.559 million tonnes, as did egg output, up 0.87% to 741.1 million units.
