Rough diamond imports to Belarus in the first quarter of 2008 reached 24,422.52 carats, marking a 46.2% increase compared to the same period of 2007, says a spokesman for the country's Finance Ministry. In monetary terms, this marked an increase of 120 percent to US$7.7 million compared to the comparable quarter in 2007.
Belarus exports of natural diamonds increased in volume by 130 percent in the quarter, to 1,210.9 carats worth US$19,000.
