US considering diplomatic response to Belarus

The US has denied reports that it's ordering Belarus to close its embassy in Washington and its consulate in New York. The State Department also says a decision has not be made to shut down the US Embassy in Belarus.

Deputy spokesman Tom Casey says they are considering a full range of options after Belarus moved to expel US diplomats. However, he insists they have not made any formal decisions. Belarus on Wednesday demanded that 10 US diplomats leave the country in 72 hours. The US calls the demand "unjustified and unwarranted".

In March, Belarus asked US ambassador Karen Stewart to leave and recalled its envoy to the US. The Foreign Ministry of Belarus says the moves are in response to Washington's sanctions against a Belarus national oil products company last year.
