Belarus Children Enjoy Lively Lag B'Omer

GRODNO, Belarus - In the Belarus city of Grodno, children gathered to celebrate Lag B'Omer, along with numerous other community members.

While a picnic outdoors had originally been organized by the local Jewish community for this occasion, heavy rain gave due cause for a change of plan. Instead, the youngsters appreciated a bonfire in the Synagogue's yard from a distance. While the adults were lighting the fire outside, children stayed inside, where they held a party.

Highlights of these festivities included fun contests, stories about Lag B'Omer, music, and knowledge-based games. The children read the 'Psukim' spoke about the Torah and played. When it came time to return home, each of them received a toy to remember the holiday by.

The Jewish community of Grodno is a thriving member of the Association of Jewish Communities of Belarus, which belongs to the Federation of Jewish Communities of the CIS.
