Belarus firm installs 'Bottlepack' production line

By Richard Higgs

Line will help Nisvizh Pharmaceutical Plant meet national demand.

28 May 2008 - Nisvizh Pharmaceutical Plant, a government-backed pharmaceutical firm in Belarus has introduced plastics packaging for its injectable products using a national form-fill-seal technology.

At the end of March the company installed its first 'Bottlepack' production line that uses home-grown Belarus technology.

It comprises inline blow-fill-seal functions and has an annual capacity of around 5 million, 250 millilitre and 500 ml bottles. After registration and clinical testing, it is set to begin full production by July.

Now, the company, based in Alba, Belarus, is installing a second 'Bottlepack' plastic blow-fill-seal line with the aim of doubling its capacity to 10m bottles. This will help it satisfy national demand for its infusion solutions in modern plastic packaging.

'Bottlepack' technology is being used increasingly for aseptic liquid filling lines in the country. Nisvizh is the country's biggest producer of infusion, aseptic and injection solutions. Its total output averages 16m bottles of 20 different brands per year, according to Eurasian Chemical Market magazine.

Nisvizh aims also to expand the supply of its plastic packaged pharma products to new export markets. The firm already sells products in Russia, Moldova, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan.

The Nisvizh project is part of an investment and development programme instituted by the Belarus republic's government to expand and upgrade its pharmaceutical and medical sector.
