Catta to present latest collection at Fashion Mill, Belarus

This week Dutch fashion designer Catta Donkersloot will make her way to Minsk to present her latest collection at the Fashion Mill Festival in Belarus.

From the 2nd till the 4th of May Catta will be part of an international group of designers from Russia, Germany, Sweden, France and Italy to show upcoming European fashion talent.

The Embassy of Belarus contacted the Dutch Fashion Foundation in search of a Dutch fashion designer to represent upcoming fashion talent from the Netherlands.

The three-day Fashion Mill Festival is the central event in Belarus in the realm of design and fashion. The Festival has an 11 years long history and is officially sponsored by the Government of Belarus.

Main event during the festival is a contest for young Belarusian fashion designers. The winners are entitled to show their collections at the Festival, which is a national-level event.

Catta Donkersloot is very much looking forward to her participation in this event: "At the moment I really have no image of Minsk, Belarus and the fashion there.

While I'm there I would like to gain inspiration from such an unexpected angle and experience the Minsk fashion scene. Of course I'm also very curious to the response to my work.

I hope to get in contact with people who are interested in my designs and hopefully to interest some sale points in my clothes.

I would also like to research any possibilities of collaborating with Belarusian fabric producers and production companies."

By presenting her autumn/winter 2008-2009 collection 'Shadow of perception' Catta will be able to give an overview of her design signature: the use of natural fabrics, a clean cut, surprising elements and a graphic balance. For this collection Catta collaborated again with photographer Lisa Kortenhorst. Each outfit of this collection is based on the photos Lisa made on her travels to China and Nepal.

With strong silhouettes formed by rever jackets in wool, pencil skirts and white blouses, it is a fairy-tail like collection with a playful combination of color and form.

'Shadow of Perception' is the third collection that Catta created under her own label. She gained her bachelor in fashion at the AMFI and a master in fashion at the Fashion Institute Arnhem.

In January 2007 Catta presented her first collection as an independent designer during the Amsterdam International Fashion Week.

Next July, Catta will present her new collection with the interdisciplinary project 'Hotel Lullaby' which will connect fashion with photography and literature.
