HA NOI - The State and people of Viet Nam will do their best to boost the many faceted relations between Viet Nam and Belarus, including co-operation in national defence and military techniques, said President Nguyen Minh Triet.

Triet made the comment while receiving Belarus's Minister of Defence, Leonid Semenovich Maltsev, in the capital yesterday.

The president praised the co-operation between defence sectors in the two countries, especially Belarus's help in providing military training.

He also thanked the State and the people of Belarus for supporting Viet Nam's struggle for independence and becoming involved in the country's current national construction and defence.

"Viet Nam would like to express the gratitude by enhancing co-operation with Belarus in many fields, of those national defence is one important part," he said.

The visiting Belarus minister briefed the Vietnamese president on his meeting with Vietnamese Defence Minister Phung Quang Thanh earlier.

He stressed that co-operation in defence between the two countries in recent years had produced positive results.

Maltsev said he hoped agreements signed between the two ministries during his visit would enable relations to develop further. - VNS
