Belarus, Azerbaijan need to enhance cooperation: president

Belarus and Azerbaijan need to enhance cooperation, BELTA news agency quoted Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko as saying at a meeting with Azerbaijani First Deputy Prime Minister Yagub Eyyubov.

Alexander Lukashenkoi says trade turnover worth $120 million is not satisfactory. "It does not meet potential of the two countries," Belarus President said.

The head of state stressed that Belarus and Azerbaijan "do not have any prejudice and the closed issues." He said the countries have good plans. The two countries realize some ideas, in particular, to establish assembly production of Belarusian equipment in Azerbaijan. "We have an issue to talk about given that the turnover of $120 million. It is very small amount taking into consideration the existing potential. Today we will discuss our trade and economic relations," Belarus President said.

Alexander Lukashenko congratulated Azerbaijani leadership with tremendous success in the referendum. "There was a popular support and that says a lot. It was a genuine referendum. I think that it is better to act honestly and sincerely, than look for devious ways to solve a particular problem," he said. "The referendum points to high confidence to country's leadership."

First Deputy Prime Minister of Azerbaijan also said that trade volume between the two countries does not match the potential, and he confirmed that Azerbaijan for its part is ready to deepen cooperation. "The current volume of trade is not satisfied. We need to deepen cooperation not only in present fields, but also look for new ones. We need as much as possible to expand cooperative ties," he said. Eyyubov noted the great potential of Belarus and said he believes that this country possesses experience to learn. "

Vice Prime Minister said last visit of Belarus President to Azerbaijan gave an opportunity to deepen the cooperation between the countries. Eyyubov assured that the Azerbaijani side will strive to implement what has been laid by two presidents. He also conveyed the good wishes and best regards to kind people of Belarus and President Alexander Lukashenko from Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev. "We know that Belarus is a country that has its own independent policy, where people live well, knowing that they have a future," he said.
