Belarus participation in EXPO-2010 to facilitate Minsk-Beijing closer ties

MINSK, May 1 (Itar-Tass) -- Belarus' participation in the World Exhibition EXPO-2010 will promote further rapprochement of Minsk and Beijing and strengthen friendship and mutual understanding, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko said in a congratulatory message sent to Chinese President Hu Jintao on the occasion of the EXPO-2010 opening in Shanghai on Friday.

"I am confident that you will do your best to turn this forum into the event, which will be quite as remarkable as the XXIX Olympic Games," Lukashenko said in the message.

In his words, "Belarus is delighted with the success of fraternal China on the road to prosperity, as well as upward dynamics in the development of the strategic partnership between the two countries," the presidential press service said.

"Our pavilions will add to the multi-national variety of the forum and will allow millions of visitors to study achievements of the Belarusian and Chinese peoples in economy, education, science, culture, and sports," Lukashenko stressed.

Deputy Prime Minister Viktor Burya heads the national organising committee for the EXPO-2010 forum.

Touching upon the preparation of the national stand, he said that Belarus put a lot of efforts and funds in the participation in the forum, considering it as one of the most important actions of the year.

The Belarusian pavilion will be located on 1,000 square metres in one of the most prestigious sites of the World Exhibition.

The country puts on display the best products of more than 30 industrial companies, including the Orsh flax processing plant, the Dobrush porcelain factory, the Neman glassware plant, the Minsk watch manufacturing plant, biggest facilities of the Belarusian Light Industry concern, and the Bobruisk textile facility.

Belarus will also put on display videos on the development of the country as a whole, and on the history of its small towns, and modern urban life.(Itar-Tass)
