Belarus completed the mass sowing campaign of early spring grains and leguminous plants, declared the Ministry of Agriculture and Food of the country.
Generally, the country sowed early spring grains and leguminous plants throughout the areas of 1.1 mln ha.
All oblasts of Belarus, except of Vitebsk oblast, have already provided the whole complex of spring field sowing works at 100% of the planned areas. Vitebsk oblast still continues realization of the sowing works due to soil water saturation, caused by the extended period of snow melting from fields and the rainy weather in April and the beginning of May, explained specialists of the Ministry.
According to information of the Ministry, to date, agricultural organizations continue resowing works of perished winter grain and rapeseed sowings, provide additional fertilizing of winter crops, and etc.
As of May 12, 2010, agrarians of Belarus sowed maize throughout 530 thsd ha, which totaled 66% only from the planned areas as opposed to 89% compared to the same date of the previous year.
As of the reporting date, agrarians provided the general spring sowing campaign throughout 91.5% of the planned areas, or 2.18 mln ha.
