On May 4, ceremony of laying of wreaths at the monument erected a year ago in memory of crew that died on board of the "Ilya Muromets-16" aircraft during the World War I was held at the Borun village of Oshmiansk district of Belarus. First Azerbaijani pilot Farrukh Gayibov was among the victims.

The event was attended by Azerbaijani Ambassador to Belarus Ali Nagiyev, Deputy Chairman of the executive committee of Oshmiansk Alexander Savanets, embassy officials, executives and activists of the Azerbaijani diaspora, local district authorities and others.

Ambassador Ali Nagiyev congratulated event participants on the 65-th anniversary of the Victory and stressed that such events are another evidence of the profound friendship between the Azerbaijani and Belarusian peoples.

"If we want our people to be real friends, we should advocate such values. As an ambassador of Azerbaijan in Belarus, as a representative of the Azerbaijani people, I am very pleased that the heroic events in the territory of Belarus have a direct bearing on our countrymen. It is good that they are not forgotten and we still honor them," Nagiyev said.

In the coming days, the embassy together with the Diaspora will visit other memorial sites in Belarus to commemorate the heroes of the war years.
