Bishkek asks Minsk to extradite Bakiyev

Kyrgyzstan's Prosecutor-General's Office has forwarded a request to Minsk for the extradition of the former Kyrgyz President Kurmanbek Bakiyev. This came in a statement by the deputy Prime Minister of Kyrgyz interim government Azimbek Beknazarov. Bakiyev was stripped of his presidential immunity and charged in absentia with abuse of power and complicity in murder. On the 16th of last month the Kyrgyz President succumbed to the interim government's pressure and signed his resignation. After that he left for Minsk, where Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko granted him political asylum. But several days later Bakiyev refused to recognize his own resignation.
