Belarus police holds exercise against illegal migration

Minsk, 16 June: An unscheduled comprehensive tactical-special exercise on countering illegal migration started in the early hours today in the Mahilyow and Homel regions in accordance with an order issued by Belarusian Interior Minister [Police] Lt-Gen Uladzimir Navumaw.

The chief of the Interior Ministry's information and public relations department, Henadz Klepcha, told Belapan that cooperation between all services of the Interior Ministry aimed at combating illegal migration will be practised during the exercise. Officers of the Interior Ministry, who were put on an alert, are establishing possible routes of organized groups of illegal migrants and practising methods of their detention. Operational headquarters have been set up in the regions. Representatives of the regional police directorates have left for the districts located near the border with Russia.

The deputy interior minister and chief of the main directorate of public security police and special police, Viktar Filistovich, is in charge of the exercise.

The exercise results will be summed up on 17 June.
