EU: Belarus Should Be Dropped From GSP?

The European Union is likely to recommend that Belarus be dropped from the Generalized System of Preferences (GSP), exposing Minsk to increased trade barriers with EU members states, the EUobserver reported June 14, citing an unidentified European Commission official. The official said the commission is concerned that Belarus is not honoring its commitments to the International Labor Organization and is violating workers' rights. The European Union is Belarus' second-largest trading partner and accounts for 37 percent of its exports.
