Dramatic Increase of Venezuela-Belarus Links

Minsk, June 29 (Prensa Latina) President of Venezuela, Hugo Chavez, highlighted on Friday the development of relations with Belarus and progress made in just a year after his first visit to this country.

During a meeting with President of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, Chavez referred to the work carried out by a Belarussian firm to determine energy reserves in the Orinoco area.

The Venezuelan leader, who arrived in Belarus after a two-day stay in Russia, reiterated the strategic character acquired by these bilateral relations.

He mentioned obstacles in the way of a more dynamic development of the links, including external forces, geographic distance and the lack of contacts between both states for many years.

At the same time, he highlighted the effectiveness of the creative work of the teams of experts in promoting projects between the two countries.

The Venezuelan president is scheduled to head for Iran on Saturday, according to diplomatic sources here.
