Belarus: 5.500 ha of crops were lost due to dry weather

According to First Assistant of Director General of the Science-Practical Centre of Agriculture at NAS of Belarus Michael Kadyrov, extraordinary hot weather in Belarus and local lack of atmospheric precipitations during the third decade of May and first half of June caused to damage of 20.000-25.000 ha of crops and to loss of 5.500 ha of crops.

According to Kadyrov, in many regions they were forced to collect winter crops sowings to feed animals and to re-sow one0year plants to fill feed stocks.

Other crops - maize, potatoes, winter rapeseed - were not damaged by drought.

Despite of caused damage, in total the situation with formation of crop under existing weather conditions is not estimated as critical, due to recent local rains across Belarus and reduction of day air temperature to 20-25 degrees above zero.
