Etihad to capitalise on trade links with Belarus

Etihad will become the first Gulf airline to fly to Belarus when the carrier launches routes to Minsk on August 5.

The move comes as trade between the UAE and Belarus flourishes, with $30m-$40m a year being generated. Talks between UAE president His Highness Sheik Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Belarus president Alexander Lukashenko also hastened the link.

Flights will operate twice weekly, every Tuesday and Thursday, on Etihad's new Airbus A319 aircraft. A third weekly flight will be added every Saturday from October.

His Excellency Vladimir Sulimsky, ambassador of the Republic of Belarus in the UAE, said: "There is a real appetite for business between our two countries which is sure to be boosted by the launch of this new, non-stop service between our two capital cities."
