Belarus accuses U.S. of helping train radical opposition at UNA-UNSOcamps in Ukraine

MINSK. June 9 (Interfax) - Belarusian radical opposition groups are receiving special training at paramilitary camps of the Ukrainian National Assembly - Ukrainian National Self-Defense (UNA-UNSO) in Ukraine, Belarus' state-run Channel 1 reported Sunday evening.

According to the report, Belarusian radicals at the beginning of May were at a paramilitary camp in the woodlands in Ternopil region.

"They practiced ways of taking hostages, attacking towns and villages as well as reconnaissance and camouflage techniques," the report said.

"The UNA-UNSO militants who set up the camp had received combat training in hot spots in the former Soviet republics," the report said.

In addition, another Ukrainian nationalist organization - the National Alliance - organized a paramilitary camp in Volhynia region, where members of a new unregistered radical organization called Bunt (Revolt) from Belarus were trained, the report said.

"Recruiting is under way in Mogilyov, Belarus, for a summer camp that will be located near Lviv, Ukraine," it said.

"The camps are sponsored by the U.S. National Democratic Institute via the Kyiv office of David Hamilton, who has provided $250,000 in 2007-2008 for the training of Belarusian radicals," it said.
