US lawyer's health condition does not prevent him from staying in KGB cell in Minsk

Complex medical examination of the American citizen Emanel Zeltzer had showed that he might be kept in a remand prison of the Belarus KGB, the chief of the Centre of information and public relations of the Belarus KGB, Valery Nadtochiyev, said.

"Complex commission medical examination of Emanuel Zeltzer's health was carried out, a conclusion is received that the health condition does not prevent his holding in conditions of an investigatory insulator", Nadtochayev declared to the First national televison channel yesterday night.

AIA already reported that the 54-year-old was initially charged with using false documents, for which he could get three years in prison if convicted. The US lawyer who was arrested at an airport in Minsk on March 12 as he arrived in Belarus for meetings with unnamed clients, daily Kommersant reported. Emanuel Zeltser, a Russian-born US lawyer who is an expert on organized crime in the former Soviet Union, faces drug-smuggling charges more than two months.

The source of the Interfax told that more than 100 tablets containing narcotic and psychotropic substances have been withdrawn from Zeltser.
