Belorussian opposition activist to continue education in Poland

Ivan Szilo, a Belorussian opposition activist who was expelled from a secondary school in Belarus, will be able to continue his education in Poland.

The information first appeared on the independent Karta-97 portal referring to a declaration made by the Polish Education Minister Katarzyna Hall.

Ivan Szilo was expelled from the school he attended in Soligorsk, after being charged with "extensive civic activity".

Just a day before taking his final exam, Sziwo was informed that he would not be able to continue his education. As a sing of protest against this decision, the headmaster handed in his resignation and Sziwo's colleagues from the opposition held a protest outside the Belorussian Ministry of Education building.

According to the Karta-97 portal, Polish Minister of Education Katarzyna Hall announced that Szilo will be able to complete his secondary education in Poland and apply to university, if he wishes, adding that any Belorussian student in a similar predicament would also be offered such a possibility.
