Belarusian upper house speaker, MPs to visit Iran

TEHRAN (FNA) - A large delegation of Belarusian officials, including members of the parliament and representatives of big enterprises, are slated to visit Iran in late June.

"We will be grateful if a meeting with the president of Iran is organized," Speaker of the upper house of the Belarusian Parliament Barys Batura said in a meeting with Iran's Ambassador to Minsk Abdollah Hosseini.

Batura further said that the delegation would like to meet with the head of the Islamic Consultative Assembly (Iran's Parliament) and the ministers of trade, industry, mines and foreign affairs.

He added that the final make-up of the delegation is yet to be decided by Belarusian President Alyaksandr Lukashenka.

Batura also predicted that the delegation would most likely include the country's senators, members of the parliament and representatives of big enterprises.

He also asked for Tehran's help in finding dealers in Iran for the Belarus enterprises.

The Belarusian speaker expressed the hope that the planned visit would give a new impetus to the development of Belarusian-Iranian relations.

Iran and Belarus enjoy growing ties, specially in recent years. Trade cooperation between Iran and Belarus reached 83.9 million dollars in 2008, up by 34.1 percent comparing to 2007.
