Ukraine, Belarus sign agreement on visa-free regime

Interfax-Ukraine

Ukraine and Belarus have agreed to facilitate the registration of their citizens during trips to each other's countries as part of the implementation of an agreement on a visa-free regime.

Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko and her Belarusian counterpart Sergey Sidorsky signed the document at a meeting in Kyiv on Friday.

"It is a very significant step in our mutual understanding, and, first and foremost, this a document that gives our citizens a chance to visit our countries without any visas: This is [evidence of] the high level of trust and the highest level of cooperation and friendship between our countries," she said.

A Ukrainian-Belarusian draft agreement on a visa-free regime approved by the Ukrainian government in May 2009, foresees that the period of stay of Ukrainians and Belarusians in both countries without any registration is increased from three days to 30.
