Belarus, Sri Lanka to become SCO partner countries

YEKATERINBURG. June 16. KAZINFORM. /Aigul Tulekbayeva/ “The Republic of Belarus and Sri Lanka will gain a status of partner countries of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization. A draft document regulating the order of acceptance of new members to the organization will be adopted soon”, Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has announced at the SCO Summit in Yekaterinburg.
According to D. Medvedev, the decision on acceptance of new members will strengthen the opportunities of the organization.

The regulations on SCO dialogue partner status was approved at the Dushanbe SCO Summit on August 28, 2008. The states having observer status in the organization are Mongolia (since 2004), India, Iran and Pakistan (since 2005).
