Lukashenko visiting Turkmenistan

ASHGABAT. June 18 (Interfax) - Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko has praised recent trends in the development of Belarus' relations with Turkmenistan but suggested at the same time that the two countries are not fully realizing their potential.

"Our trade turnover has grown 13 times over past years, but this is almost nothing. We have huge potential, and it would be a sin not to use it," Lukashenko said at negotiations with Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow in Ashgabat on Thursday.

"Our countries are well-manageable and obliging," Lukashenko said. "Anything we will agree upon will definitely be put into practice on our part," he said.

Belarus and Turkmenistan could expand investment cooperation, Lukashenko said. "We welcome Turkmen investment and will guarantee its protection," he said.

Berdimuhamedow also said the two countries have enjoyed a positive trend in developing cooperation over the past several years. "But our countries have a lot of reserves to increase cooperation," he said.
