Russia ready to consider putting $9 Bln into NPP project in Belarus - Belarus govt

MINSK. June 26 (Interfax) - Belarus has reached an agreement in principle with Russia on the funding of the project to build a nuclear power plant, Belarusian First Deputy Prime Minister Vladimir Semashko told the parliament on Friday.

"In principle, the issue of funding the project to build a nuclear power plant in Belarus has been decided," he said.

"Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin confirmed the following on June 22. I quote: 'Regarding the request for extending a $9 billion state loan to Belarus in 2010 - 2018 to build a nuclear power plant I can report, that the work to negotiate a draft agreement with the Belarusian side on cooperation in building a nuclear power plant is continuing. The Russian government confirms it is ready to weigh the possibility of providing state financial support for this project," Semashko quoted Putin as saying.
