Russia expects gas contracts with Belarus to be fulfilled - Lavrov

Russia expects that gas agreements with Belarus to be fulfilled, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said in Minsk Tuesday after having talks with Belarus' President Alexander Lukashenko. When he was asked to comment on Lukashenko's statement about "the gas war with Russia" Lavrov said that the president "have the right to speak out on any issues".

Earlier Marlene Holnzner, spokeswoman with the European Commission told a press conference in Brussels, that Russia had promised uninterrupted gas flows to the EU countries. In case Belarus hampers gas transit via the Yamal pipeline, Gazprom is to supply gas to Poland and Germany via Ukraine, she said.

Belarus owes Russia $182 million for gas. On Monday, Gazprom restricted its gas supplies to Belarus.
