Belarus. President orders gas lines shut down

Belarussian President Alexander Lukashenko ordered the shutdown of transit of Russian gas to Europe on Tuesday, escalating a new energy feud after Moscow slashed supplies to Minsk in a debt dispute. The maverick leader said that the conflict was turning into a full-blown "gas war" and said he would not tolerate humiliation by Belarus' Soviet-era master. He said that Belarus had found the money to pay his country's debt to Russian gas giant Gazprom, but insisted that Russia also owed money to Belarus for moving the gas.
