Serbia, Belarus to improve economic cooperation

Minister for the National Investment Plan Verica Kalanovic and Belarus Minister of Trade Valentin Chekanov met today in the capacity of co-presidents of the Intergovernmental Serbian-Belarusian Commission and examined issues related to improvement of economic cooperation.

Kalanovic pointed to the interest of construction companies from Serbia in taking part in the construction of infrastructural projects in Belarus and added that possibilities for cooperation in the field of tourism are vast.

The ministers agreed that for the next session of the Committee, which will be held in Minsk in October, a protocol should be prepared that will give guidelines for setting up a joint company for the production of tractors.

An agreement was reached on intensifying activities in preparing intergovernmental agreements on social security and agricultural cooperation, together with an agreement on extradition and legal assistance in civil and criminal proceedings, as well as an agreement on production and scientific-technical cooperation in the field of press and media.

The Agreement on trade and economic cooperation between Serbia and Belarus was ratified in the Serbian parliament in December 2009.

Belarusian companies and institutions are presented at BelarusExpo exhibition, which is taking place in Belgrade from 23 to 26 June.
