Chief Rabbi of Grodno Reaches Out to Rural Belarus Community

GRODNO, Belarus - The Chief Rabbi of Grodno, Yitzchak Kofman,, has paid a visit to the city of Slonim, located in the Grodno Region of Belarus. The purpose of his trip was to meet with local Jews.

During their meeting, Jews residing in Slonim spoke to the visiting rabbi about their communal activities. This was a heart-warming visit, with numerous of the adult men taking the opportunity to put tefillin on for the first time in their lives.

During his visit to this more rural settlement, Rabbi Kofman gave the members of this dedicated community some printed publications on Judaism that he had brought with him from Grodno. He also expressed his hope to keep in regular touch with them, a suggestion that the meeting's participants were also enthusiastic about.

Following the meeting, some of the local Jews took Rabbi Kofman on a guided tour around Slonim, showing him the most fascinating local sites of interests. The Jewish leader was particularly pleased to visit the site of the old ruined synagogue, which is situated in the central quarter of this city.
