Sedmoi Kontinent in Minsk

Food retailer Sedmoi Kontinent and Belarus's Triple opened the first of a chain of Pro-Store supermarkets in Minsk, Vedomosti reported Friday, citing Belarussian Deputy Minister for Trade Mikhail Svetnitsky.

A site has been found for a second store, Lyudmila Petrakovskaya, an official in the Belarussian Trade and Services Ministry, told Vedomosti. The first store was opened Thursday.

Other Russian retail chains have been reluctant to expand into Belarus because local law requires shops to carry 70 percent native products, the newspaper said. It did not provide further details. (Bloomberg)
