Belarusian Opposition Members Demand Action Against Distribution of Antisemitic Literature

Four former members of the Belarusian parliament have signed an appeal to the Prosecutor General's office asking for incitement charges to be filed against a publisher of antisemitic literature in Belarus, according to a July 11, 2006 report by the opposition web site Charter 97. The appeal focuses on the Orthodox book chain, which has in the past distributed antisemitic books and periodicals. The authors of the appeal note that the books are published in a state-run printing house in Minsk, which implicates the government in the publication of hate literature: ?Taking into account the total control that the current authorities of the Republic of Belarus exercise over the media, including publishing houses, we are concerned that the printing of these books has not been stopped and was not examined by the Ministry of Information.
