Cases of suspected Polish spies in Belarus not yet submitted to court - Supreme Court

The criminal case into suspected Polish spies in Belarus has not yet been submitted to court, a source in the Belarusian Supreme Court told Interfax.

"The Supreme Court has not received any cases of this kind," he said.

"The case that was probed by the Belarusian KGB can be heard by the Supreme Court's Military Board, or the Belarusian Military Court, but it must pass through the Supreme Court's office," he said.

The Polish embassy in Minsk has not released any comments on reports that the Belarusian State Security Committee (KGB) arrested suspected Polish spies.

The Belarusian KGB claimed, according to earlier reports, that it had uncovered a Polish intelligence network. KGB deputy head Viktor Vegera said five suspected spies - former servicemen - had been arrested on suspicion of gathering intelligence for Poland.

The KGB also claimed that criminal cases were opened against all five on charges of high treason and espionage.
